A lively crowd of more than 150 was on hand for another exciting edition of Saturday Nite Slam.
Ahuna, who is still recovering from a broken arm, took over ring announcing duties for the evening. He called all of the competitors in the evening's Kekaulike Tag Title Tournament down to the ring. Kaniala announced that because Ahuna could not compete, Kaniala arranged to partner with Kaimana and reunite Hawaiian Blood.
After the tag teams went back to the locker room to prepare, referee Jeremy the Axe came to the ring and was confronted by billionaire manager Masayuki Oki. Mr. Oki told Jeremy that he was the worst referee in HCW, AWA, and everywhere else. Mr. Oki called Jeremy a loser and slapped his face. When Jeremy demanded an apology, Mr. Oki called Big Daddy Frank to the ring and threateningly told Jeremy that Big Daddy Frank was his apology.
Match #1 (Kekaulike Tag Tournament Qualifying): 939 Express ("Rock Star" Ricky Thunder & "Hot Sauce" Jody Lopez) advanced by pinfall over Big Daddy Frank & Mr. Spa Fitness. (time: 6:46, referee Jeremy the Axe)
Match #2 (Kekaulike Tag Tournament Qualifying): Hawaiian Blood (Kaniala & Kaimana) advanced by pinfall over Nightmare & Ativalu. (time: 9:28, referee Jeremy the Axe)
Match #3 (Kekaulike Tag Tournament Qualifying): Both teams, Kapu & Bushido-X and the newly-reunited East Coast Connection (JT Wolfen & Sickdog), were eliminated in this match due to a double-countout. (time: 9:05, referee Jeremy the Axe)
Match #4 (HCW/AWA Inter-Island Title Match): Kaimana retained his title by pinfall over Chris Del Sol. (time: 5:54, referee Kazz)
Kaimana added a potent new finishing move to his arsenal in this match but I wasn't able to find out what he called it. I'm sure we'll find out soon.
Match #5 (NWA Hawaiian Heavyweight Title Match, Triple-Threat with Hardcore Rules): Kapu retained his title over both Kaniala and the Big Island's Molten Magma after putting Magma through TWO tables (stacked one on top of the other!) and forcing Magma to tap out to a new submission hold. (time: 10:31, referee Kazz)
When I asked Kapu about his new finisher and asked if it was a form of Texas Cloverleaf, he glared at me and said, "There are no Texas Cloverleafs in Hawaii. What's the matter with you? What kind of professor are you? That was the Hawaiian Ti Leaf. This is Hawaii and I am 300% Hawaiian."
During the match, Kazz took a garbage can to the head and was knocked out for a while. He insisted on finishing out the match but needed help getting back to the locker room.
Match #6 (NWA Hawaiian Cruiserweight Title Match): Mr. Spa Fitness used a new finisher, the F 360, to pin Nightmare and retain his title. (time: 7:56, referee Jeremy the Axe)
What a night of new moves! Mr. Spa Fitness told me that he was very happy with his wins with the crucifix, but since he'd perfected that move, he was working on new ones like the F 360.
Match #7 (HCW Kamehameha Heritage Title Match): JT Wolfen retained his title by pinfall after catching Ativalu in the Wolfenizer. (time: 4:30, referee Jeremy the Axe)
Fellow E. C. C. member Sickdog accompanied Wolfen to the ring and watched the match from ringside. It was a good thing, since toward the end of the match, Bushido-X snuck to ringside from the locker room, probably to interfere in the title match, but was intercepted by Sickdog. They fought their way back to the locker room as Wolfen finished off Ativalu in the ring.
Match #8 (HCW Kekaulike Tag Title Match): The 939 Express ("Rock Star" Ricky Thunder & "Hot Sauce" Jody Lopez) defeated Hawaiian Blood (Kaimana & Kaniala) by pinfall to become the HCW Kekaulike Tag Champions. (time: 15:01, referee Kazz)
As their finisher, the 939 Express threw Kaniala out of the ring then set up Kaimana. Jody Lopez threw Kaimana from the top rope right into a Thunderbolt. This might have been enough for the pin, but Jody followed it up with a frog splash from the top rope that put an exclamation point on their win.
After the match, Nightmare grabbed a microphone and announced that as the winner of the prior show's battle royal, he wanted to exercise his right to a title match with the partner of his choice. He said he was picking Big Daddy Frank and wanted the match right then and there. Nightmare jumped into the ring, was immediately rolled up by Ricky Thunder, and referee Jeremy the Axe counted the pin, which seemed to end the challenge. Nightmare grabbed the microphone again and complained that it wasn't a real match since his partner hadn't come to the ring and the bell hadn't rung. He insisted on real match at the next show, and the 939 Express agreed to it.
Just as Ahuna was about to end the evening's event, Tsunami and her manager Kuulei Adolpho came to the ring with a few announcements of their own. Tsunami said though she was appreciative of HCW's efforts, she still didn't have any female opponents. Sam the Man had announced on his radio show that anyone who wanted to get into the ring against Tsunami was invited to take their shot, so Tsunami asked if anyone had come to the show for that reason. One brave female in the audience raised her hand.
"Tiff" climbed into the ring and said that she had come to take Tsunami on. They exchanged a few shoves and throws, but Ahuna interrupted things and said that this wasn't a sanctioned match, but if they waited until the next show, HCW President Linda could make the match happen. Both Tiff and Tsunami agreed, which gives us fans another match to look forward to when HCW returns to Tropics.
