History Made In Hawaii On Saturday Night
Hawai'i Championship Wrestling
SATURDAY NITE SLAM! Wahiawa, Hawai'i
Don't even tell anyone they are too old to achieve something because you might be surprised. And surprise is one of the many adjectives that can be used by not only the main event of the Hawaii Championship Wrestling event on Saturday night, but the whole show.
An enthuastic crowd in Hawaii not only witnessed AWA, SUN, and HCW stars but they witnessed history as 74 year old Mr. Wrestling II came out of retirement and teamed with the man that he christened Mr. Wrestling 3 to defeat the monster team of Manu Samoa to become the new HCW Kekaulike World Tag Team Champions!
Just before the main event, the hated Mr. Oki came out to the crowd and announced that even though The King Of Old School Steve Corino made it to Hawaii, he was under strict orders from ZERO1-MAX's Yoshiyuki Nakamura not to allow the Hawaii Wrestling Commission to grant his license that night but fans that attended the show mentioned that they saw a slight resemblance between Mr. Wrestling 3 and Steve Corino. Are they one and the same? Corino says no. We caught up with him at the Waikiki Marriott in Hawaii this morning to comment.
"Nakamura is supposed to be my friend but I knew this was coming. I might not have been there as Steve Corino but Hawaii fans know that I was there in spirit and I congratulate Mr. Wrestling 3 on his debut and Mr. Wrestling II on a historical achievement."
After the title win, Mr. Wrestling 3 and II talked with the press and Wrestling 3 talked about what his plans are for the future and even asked Wrestling II if they could challenge for the AWA World tag team championships held by The Heartbreak Express. Wrestling II laughed it off saying "I can't believe you convinced me to do this match but I showed the world that those kids can't be too thingyy. Manu Samoa is going to have a long career and if I showed them one thing it is to be humble."
Wrestling 3 added "The Pride Of The Mask is very important to me and I was honored that Mr. Wrestling II chose me to live on the tradition. It is now time for me to continue the legacy of this mask and make more history. My main goal is to come back to my new home of Hawai'i and defend this titles and also put out a challenge to Ricky Landell for the ZERO1-MAX United States championship. The negative tide of pro-wrestling is about to change and Mr. Wrestling 3 is going to lead the charge!"
Other great matches included AWA Apex's Brian Logan returning to Hawaii and losing a very close bout with Hawaiian Inter-Island champion Big Daddy Frank. Logan used all of his old school rulebreaking ways but he just couldn't put the big man down. I don't think we have seen the last of Logan in HCW.
Also it is rare to see one great womens matches but HCW produced TWO on Saturday night first with SUN's HIKARU defeating the massive Tsunami in a loser-leaves-wrestling contest. And then Tracy Taylor, fresh off a very successful tour of Japan defeated AWA Japan women's champion Saki Maemura in a match where the loser had to clean toilets! You have to see these matches!
HCW Kamehameha Heritage World Heavyweight champion Micah, "The Chosen One"defended his championship in a exciting contest with Sean Christain. This back and forth match could have went either way until Micah scored the victory with his Lights Out curb stomp.
"Mr. HCW / Family Entertainment" Kaimana won a 3 way match with Ma Hu Wong and Tilo Vasaga in a strange way. The ever popular star actually put his feet on the rope for leverage. There has to be more to come about this devolping story.
And in the opener, Ahuna pinned Mike Tracy.
Another great HCW event.
